We have spent the last three days in Cartagena, a city in North Colombia and an official Caribbean beach resort! Needless to say it is hot - very hot!
The city itself is a large metropolis but we stayed by the historic walled centre and fortress which is a designated World Heritage Site and incredibly beautiful to walk around. Full of colonial buildings, lots of pretty bars and restaurants, an impressive port and local beach it has to top our list of favourite places so far.
We have been chilling here mostly, walking around the town, sunbathing on the beach and meeting up with some guys from our hostel in Medellin. One night even saw us attempt Salsa (badly) in the local nightclub.
A highlight though has to be our trip to Volcano de Lodo El Totumo, just outside the city. Sitting in mud, which has the consistency of cream and a feeling of zero gravity is definitely an experience. The mud volcano is about 15m high and supposed to have healing qualities. You get in with about 15 other people for about half an hour before being taken to the nearby lagoon to be washed clean. It was strange but really fun - despite Mike trying to see if he could push me under (he couldn´t thankfully).
We are leaving today for Santa Marta about 4 hours away. Until next time ...
