As we had been to Bangkok a few years ago we decided to stay in Bangkok for a short visit only while traveling across the rest of the country.
On arrival we booked up to go and see the floating markets which are about a two hour drive out of the city and somewhere we hadn't been before. They are an interesting sight to behold as locals sell their wares along the riverside. On our way we met Toria and Adam, got chatting and bonded over me getting 'fleeced' by a local entrepreneur ... ok so I probably gave him the wrong money.
We spent the rest of the day getting to know each others better over drinks and shopping on Khao San Road. Without meeting them we would never have discovered the VW camper van cocktail bar on Rambuttri Village that makes the most amazing mojitos and caprioskas. They also gave us some tips about places to visit around Thailand and also told us about an orphanage in Cambodia they were going to volunteer at and invited us along to join them. We had been looking for somewhere to volunteer at for sometime and this sounded perfect, just up our street. Unfortunately they were leaving for Vietnam the next day so we said goodbye over buckets of sangsom and ginger beer, served by our waiter 'crazy Chris.'
Apart from our date with Adam and Toria we spent the rest of out time in Bangkok revisiting our favourite temples from last time - Wat Pho - the temple of the reclining Buddha and Wat Arun - the temple of the dawn. Unfortunately we didn't have time to get back to the Flower Market and China Town but did discover a new area near Khao San Road called Pra Atchit street which has lovely bars and cafes to enjoy while overlooking the riverside.
We also spent quite a bit of time shopping and getting massages ...ok so a lot of time but what else can you do when it is raining outside? Khao San and Pattpong market did quite well out of us.
We head back to Bangkok for 24 hours before coming home ... Can't imagine what we will do to fill our time.
